Mindful Self Compassion Course

  • The Axis Centre Glanrafon Bangor, LL57 1LH United Kingdom (map)

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is a 9 week training course which is designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.  The three components of MSC are self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and balanced mindful awareness.  Kindness opens our hearts to suffering, so we can then give ourselves what is most needed.  Common humanity opens us to our essential inter-relatedness, dispelling the sense of isolation and aloneness so common with suffering.  Mindfulness opens us to the present moment, so that we can accept our experience with greater ease and peace of mind.  Together they allow us to access a state of warm, connected presence.

As mindfulness is the first of the three core components of MSC it is to some extent incorporated in the course, though obviously not as comprehensively as the 8 week MBSR course - which may be of benefit for the applicant to do first. However it is no longer a prerequisite to have attended a course of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) - or any other mindfulness training.  While MSC can be learned by anyone,  the teacher would screen applicants to establish the suitability of the course for them at the time of application.

Cost of course: £150 or £110 concessionary rate

The cost includes the 9 week course ( 1 orientation session + the 8 week course), a half day silent retreat, a Course-book, handouts and links to download recordings  (CDs if required are £5 extra)
