I have worked in mental health services since the 1980’s, initially as an Approved Social Worker based in a multi-disciplinary community team and more recently as a private psychotherapist and employment assisted scheme counsellor for MEDRA agency. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
In 2002, I began to teach MBCT for clinical populations and, in 2012, I taught Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for the follow-up groups on the Staying Well after Depression Trial, led by Professor Mark Williams.
I now teach Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for non-clinical populations. Most recently, I have been teaching adapted six-week and an eight-week mindfulness courses in the workplace for the staff of third sector organisations, statutory services and university staff. I have also taught an adaptation of MBSR for parents of children with enduring disabilities.
I am a member of ‘The Present’ training team based in Penmaenmawr that provides mindfulness training for primary school staff. The Present is an embedded approach that equips education staff to work mindfully with children and introduce short awareness practices directly with the children. I am able to teach mindfulness in both Welsh and English depending on the needs of the group.
